STICK DRIFT TEST · BROWSER-OBSERVED

Stick Drift Test

Use this controller stick drift test to watch raw stick traces immediately, then collect separate idle-center and full-range evidence with a local guided protocol.

Waiting for browser input

Connect a controller

Raw values and live plots remain available without starting a guided trial. Idle and full-range evidence are optional and remain separate.

No controllers detected.

Browsers expose a controller after it sends an input. Keep this page active, then press a physical controller button.

Local report

The report is created in this browser and downloaded directly to your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Raw controller samples are excluded unless you opt in. At most 5,000 samples are included.

Two separate protocols

Measure stick center and outer range

For a quick gamepad stick test, use the free-running view to inspect raw axes without starting a trial. The idle protocol measures center and jitter, while the optional range protocol measures angular coverage and browser-observed geometry. One result never stands in for the other.

How to run a stick test

  1. 01

    Confirm the signal

Connect one controller, choose it when several are present, and confirm the browser-exposed axis mapping.

  2. 02

    Leave the stick at rest

Run the optional idle trial without touching the stick. The protocol discards a 500 ms warm-up before measuring.

  3. 03

    Rotate around the edge

After valid idle evidence, run the separate full-range trial with two net rotations in one direction.

  4. 04

    Read the evidence

Compare center and jitter first, then interpret coverage and geometry with the stated browser limitations.

Evidence boundary

Measurement limitations

Results describe browser-observed geometry after operating-system, driver, transport, mapping, and scheduling effects. This page does not certify hardware health, manufacturer calibration accuracy, or the physical cause of an observed offset.

Troubleshooting stick measurements

Idle trial keeps rejecting

Place the controller on a stable surface, release the stick before starting, keep the tab active, and avoid touching the controller for the full measurement window.

Range coverage stays incomplete

Keep the stick near its outer edge, rotate steadily in one direction at least twice, and cover the full circle within 8 to 20 seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Does a non-zero center prove stick drift?

No. It is browser-observed center evidence. Mapping, software processing, connection mode, and normal controller tolerances can affect the value.

Why was my idle trial rejected?

The protocol rejects deliberate movement, too few samples, short duration, disconnects, mapping changes, and non-finite or backward-timed samples.

Why is the full-range action unavailable?

A completed idle trial establishes the center used to calculate angular bins and fitted outer geometry.

Are raw samples uploaded?

No. Samples remain in this browser. They enter a local JSON report only when you select the separate raw-sample option before download.
